Chilled Out...

Slow progress is being made in preparing the Supercharger for the forthcoming Nippon Challenge. The cold weather is stopping progress during the evenings, but it is making for great weather at the weekends once the frost has cleared. Therefore all work is being done at the weekends in the sunshine until things warm up!

Recent work has included the removal of the original radiator support, the creation of an airflow scoop in the front storage area and trial fit of the radiator and chargecooler radiator on a new support. Future work will include aluminium shrouding around the radiators to force the air through rather than around them, and a scoop in the bonnet to mate up to the one in the storage area which will allow the air to pass over the car. This should increase stability at high speeds and improve braking and grip.

Richard and David set about preparing Karen's previous race car for some up-coming track days. The first one is Rockingham at the end of February. Whilst David removed the passenger seat from the donor car, Richard swapped over a driveshaft. The opportunity was taken to fit 15" wheels from the Supercharger wearing Yokohama A048R tyres. Karen will then be able to test out the grip levels these provide as they will be used when racing the Supercharger.

They then installed the passenger seat in the racer and fitted a harness. This will allow for more fun at track days and the possibility of tuition from more experienced racers.

It's like Christmas all over again, as items keep turning up for the Supercharger. Recently receieved items from PowerSupply (www.psupply.co.uk) include bonnet pins, a cable-pull, and some aluminium and silicon piping for the chargecooler install. A race transponder was bought from Tim Cartledge (www.tcracing.co.uk) and finally an air-filter was purchased from eBay. It's now down to Richard to ensure everything is fitted and working in time for the shakedown test at Silverstone on 16th March.
